So.
The human nature is to seek comfort and avert exertion, wether that of mind or body. Hence, I, a RPG gamer since '95, a working father, and fiction afectionado, have once and again started and stopped running a game for my game crew. My sin list far outstretches my accomplishments as Dungeon Master (or Judge, Game Master, whatever).
Finished:
3 one-shots for Rolemaster in Middle-Earth setting
"In phase" (read: neglected):
Fallout Florida, campaign originally of D20Modern later converted into Fallout PnP
Abandoned:
AD&D 2ed campaign after 1 game (although not my fault, others didn't like the system)
2 Rolemaster Middle-earth short campaigns
Shadowrun 3ed campaign
Cyberpunk 2020 campaign
I'd like to blame the fact that I have been years in a 3-shift job and have 3 fine kids who take up most of my time, or that I do not own most of the abovementioned books... But honestly, the games have ended due to my laziness. Nothing else (well, maybe some computer games). Prepping adventures and inventing new intresting hooks was (and still is) hard. I'm not the greatest of actors, so my NPCs always feel like they fall short. My job changed to morning only shift about 1,5 years ago, and still I keep on pushing my deadline for next Fallout session further and further. Luckily the other DMs of our crew have stepped up on their schedules and we're in middle of very good campaign, so no one misses it. For now...
Hence, I decided; I will start a blog. Not to fish ideas (although they're welcome), but to put my mind towards the fact that I do need to do stuff I've promised to do! Writing about DMing might put me into right mood or something, so I might, eventually, finish my first campaign.
I might say something about our crew. The core of the group has been playing Rolemaster/Merp since '92. I joined little later on, and have seen occasional attempts at bringing new games to our table. None have had such staying power as RM in Middle-Earth, although we all have (mostly) enjoyed short forays into other systems. In addition to games mentioned above, Numerena, 4th and 5th edition Shadowrun, as well as other games such as Munchkin and Warhammer (and Blood Bowl) have every now and then been played. I may be forgetting some one-shots. Inventing something fresh to this crew is hard- we have all read a lot of fantasy and SF, watched movies and anime, and played a ton of computer games during these long years. We're mixed bunch ranging from lively actor to dice-grubbing munchkin, leaning a little towards "roll-playing", but in the end we have had great IC performances and great laughs OOC.
Hopefully, I will be able to do something. At least I'd love to remember to put thoughts to this blog, at least...
